I am the author of the short story Bertie’s Ghost and am working on my first novel, a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma.
As a girl, I developed a love of reading and wanted to be a writer when I grew up. After getting my degree in English literature, I worked in corporate communications and as a journalist, editor and copywriter, but the desire to write fiction never disappeared.
Finally in late 2015, I took the plunge and focused on becoming a self-published fiction writer. So far, I’m enjoying the ride immensely and feel fulfilled in a way that I have never felt before. I love learning about my writing process, thinking about my characters, imagining what will happen to them next, and seeing first drafts materialize right before my eyes. I also enjoy learning all about the self-publishing business and becoming an entrepreneur.
My nomadic, multi-culti life
Where am I from? I guess you can call me a nomad. I have lived in places as far-flung as Taipei and Tehran, Los Angeles and New York, Munich and Cambridge. Home is currently Zurich, Switzerland.
To complicate things further, I’m Chinese by birth, identify as an American, have a German husband and children who were born in England and being raised in Switzerland.
My passion for travel
What was meant to be a year off work to travel in my mid-20s turned into a passion that has taken me around the world, from a summer working in a dance club on a tiny Greek island to a winter snowboarding in the French Alps, from trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal to bungee jumping in New Zealand, from biking through Vietnam to meditating in Guatemala, from teaching English in China to learning Spanish in Peru.
It also led to a year working as a bartender in Manhattan, meeting my future husband in Nicaragua, and a decade and counting of ex-pat living in Europe.
Ordinary lives, extraordinary stories
I am infinitely grateful—and still somewhat in awe—that an ordinary girl like me took a few random twists and turns along life’s path and ended up living what has, so far, been a pretty extraordinary life.
I can’t wait to draw upon my various experiences, adventures abroad and knowledge of different cultures to spark new ideas, illuminate my writing, and bring my characters, settings and stories to life!
